- Racine Dream Team Makeover 2007 Summary -
In 2005, when the Dream Team makeover project was initiated, Dr. Kind envisioned a fun, exciting makeover contest for which the community could really get excited about. Everyone knows about the “Extreme Makeover” show on TV and most of us have wondered how fantastic that would be if it was happening to us! It was her desire to get the word out to the community that the services being given to the people on the TV show could be found right here in Racine.
Dr. Kind presented her idea to Beth Allison of InnaVision Global Marketing and Mark Eickhorst of Reach Your Mark Promotions who are both very committed to seeing the Racine area thrive. They thought it was a great idea and, thus, the Racine Dream Team Makeover, Inc. was born.
This year marks the third annual Racine Dream Team Makeover contest. We decided to add an interesting twist by creating the “Bridal Edition” this year. The contestant had to be either a bride or mother of the bride or groom with a wedding to take place prior to June 30, 2008. After reviewing applications, the judges selected our 2007 winner – Tina Petersen.
Tina is a 42 year old single mom of two teenage daughters. She has made great sacrifices over the years to give her daughters the best she could manage to give. Now her daughters are a little older and Tina is ready to start taking care of herself. She has recently been dieting and exercising and had lost almost 40 pounds before applying for the makeover. Recently she met “the man of her dreams” and became engaged on Christmas morning 2006. Her wedding date is set for June 7th, 2008. Tina was absolutely thrilled to have been selected for the 2007 Racine Dream Team Makeover – Bridal Edition so that she can look and feel her best for her special day!!
Tina has worked very hard over the past three months to achieve a much better level of health and wellness. She has spent countless hours at Razor Sharp Fitness Center in classes, personal training sessions, workouts, and nutritional counseling. She has also had multiple long dental appointments with Dr. Kind at Kind Dentistry as well as Dr. Mark Lenz Orthodontics to improve the health and appearance of her smile. In addition, Spa at Great Lakes has worked wonders with Tina’s skin. Dr. Singh’s office provided additional enhancement to Tina’s appearance by giving her cosmetic, tinted contact lenses. Many other area businesses donated services to Tina as the final stages of the makeover approached. At the Reveal Ceremony on Thursday evening, June 21st, Tina made her grand entrance and celebrated the success of all of her hard work and dedication. She looks and feels fabulous!!!

Here are the final updates from our providers and our sponsors:
Kind Dentistry - Tina has already begun her cosmetic dental makeover process. Dr. Kind has developed a comprehensive dental treatment plan including oral surgery, gum treatment, bridgework, and porcelain crowns for Tina's front teeth. Tina will also receive teeth whitening treatments to further enhance her smile. Some of the initial dental treatment has been started and Tina is feeling great about the changes she can already see and feel. Tina's smile will be absolutely beautiful for her wedding!!
May 24, 2007 - Tina is on her way to a more beautiful and healthy smile. So far, she has received a comprehensive dental exam and xrays, full periodontal cleanings, oral surgery, four porcelain crowns, one three-unit porcelain bridge, three composite fillings, and a sealant. Tina spent many long hours in the dental chair, but she feels the end results will make it all worth while. Her final crown-work will have to be completed after her orthodontic treatment this summer. But even the temporary crowns look great and her dental health has already been greatly improved!!
June 19th, 2007 - Tina’s orthodontic treatment is coming along nicely and we anticipate being able to finish her crown and bridgework in September. Her final smile will be gorgeous and much healthier than when she started this makeover process. She will definitely be smiling with confidence for her wedding day!!
Dr. Lenz - Orthodontist - Dr. Mark Lenz will be providing orthodontic treatment for Tina's lower arch to straighten and align the lower teeth in preparation for the bridgework to be done by Dr. Kind. Dr. Lenz will be using the Damon Bracket System which provides light forces to move the teeth, therefore minimizing discomfort and also shortening treatment time. The orthodontic portion of Tina's treatment will probably take six to nine months to complete.
We placed Tina's lower braces on 3/30/2007. She was very excited to start her treatement and is doing BEAUTIFULLY.
Razor Sharp Fitness - From Suzanne, the club's Wellness Consultant and Registered Nurse - I had the pleasure of meeting with Tina this past Thursday, March 29th for our first visit, and wanted to bring you up to date. Her starting stats are as follows:
Weight= 188.9 lbs.
Body Fat % = 27.6
Waist= 36.5 in.
Hips= 43 in
Chest= 40.5 in.
April 25th, 2007 - Tina impressed me from the start with her humbleness and personal
commitment to improving her overall health and wellness. She is ready to make the lifestyle changes needed for improved health and quality of life, for her and her family! I began with simple measurements including weight, body fat percent, and waist and hip circumference. We then discussed eating habits, exercise, risk factors, including tobacco and alcohol use, current medications and supplementation, heart health, dieting history and health care utilization. The majority of our first visit was discussing the basics of nutrition and weight management, and providing Tina with a sound meal plan including a healthy balance of nutrients during this time of her "makeover". We set some short term goals and will meet again soon.
April 25th, 2007 - From Tenille - personal trainer and fitness consultant - Tina’s doing awesome so far! She’s met with me a few times now and she’s come to both spinning and cardio-kickboxing all week. She’s definitely determined to get the most out of this makeover and I’m already excited to see how she’s going to look at the reveal!
Tina has definitely started off with a bang! She has been diligently coming into the gym 2 days a week with me for her strength training and she has been doing cardiovascular activity 6 times a week (5 classes and one day of lower intensity walking on the treadmill). We have had to reschedule a couple sessions, so that she may see other “makeover magicians,” but we are still getting them in. Overall she is doing great and working hard! Very few people start off in a regimen as vigorous as this, and of the people who do, very few of them have the demeanor about it that she does. So because of the attitude and determination I’ve seen thus far, I have to say that I’m already proud of her and very excited to see how this journey will end!
May 24th, 2007 - Tina continues to make smart food choices which support her new, healthy lifestyle! She has begun journaling her food intake, which helps her ensure she takes in the right amount of nutrients throughout the day.
Tina has started supplementing her diet and lifestyle with a general
multivitamin and an antioxidant that is isotonic capable. This simply
means her vitamins are in a powder form and when mixed with water, they are very biavailable to her body supporting her cellular needs. Tina will begin my 12 week Transitions Lifestyle Weight Management Program on May 9th. This is a very comprehensive program which focuses on eating low glycemic index foods, behavior modification and changing body composition, which she has already started to accomplish by working
with her personal trainer. The goal is to help Tina achieve permanent, healthy, lifestyle changes which support optimal health for her and her family. - Suzanne Williamson RN BSN CDE Nutraceutical Consultant
May 24th, 2007 - Tina and I have been hitting the weights hard. Her appointments with the other makeover businesses have seemed to calm down now so she’s able to focus on the gym a little bit more. She and I are still meeting twice a week, but after this week we may bump it up to three. We will be able to focus on each muscle group more and she will see faster results. I am going to see how this week goes and I’ll decide then. She’s been doing her cardio, and going to her classes so very I’m pleased with her effort in that area. Its one thing when she has an appointment with me and knows I’m here waiting for her, but it’s another when she has to come in on her own and find the discipline within herself. She also tells me that she’s struggling a bit with the nutrition portion of it, but I think she’s just being too hard on herself. The weight is coming off, so she must not be doing that bad! Spa at Great Lakes - Spa at Great Lakes had a great time participating in the Racine Dream Team Makeover for the first time this year! It was wonderful getting to know Tina and watching all of her progress over the months. Tina's journey with us began with a complete skin care consultation to assess the condition of her skin and to design our treatment plan. After talking with Tina and examining her skin we determined that she had a combination oily skin type, some clogged pores, an uneven skintone with persistant redness and inflammation caused by broken capillaries and some various vascular lesions. To start her treatment plan Tina received a one hour relaxation facial to deeply cleanse, tone and moisturize her skin and was educated about the importance of a good home skin care regimen and the daily use of a sunscreen. She was provided with products from our GloTherapeutics skin care line to use in her home skin care regimen. These products were specifically chosen based on her skin type and are made with pharmaceutical grade ingredients. They contain lots of antioxidants and have anti-inflammatory benefits. Tina was also introduced to and provided with products from our GloMinerals makeup line - which she loved! This mineral based makeup is non-comedogenic, contains UVA/UVB sun protection, is rich in antioxidants and also has anti-inflammatory ingredients making it perfect for acne and rosacea prone skin.
The biggest part of Tina's treatments consisted of a series of chemical peels and Intense pulsed light treatments. The chemical peels were done in a series of 4 performed 2 weeks apart and helped unclog her pores, smooth her skin texture and even out her skin tone. She received a series of 3 Intense Pulsed Light treatments also performed 2 weeks apart that helped to remove the broken blood vessels on her face and removed a cherry angioma in addition to treating redness and hyperpigmentation. Overall Tina had great results and we hope she continues with her home skin care regimen and periodic facials to keep her skin in top condition.
Eye Center of Racine - Dream Team winner Tina recently visited the Eye Center of Racine and Kenosha and has been given a year's supply of cosmetically-tinted contact lenses. These lenses are intended to enhance and/or change the color of the eye, depending on the specific lens color/shade chosen by the patient.
Before coming to the Eye Center to meet Dr. Stephen J. Pruett for a contact lens fitting, Tina underwent extensive pre-operative testing for various vision-related services, including laser eyelid surgery and laser vision correction surgery, commonly known as LASIK. Dr. Kanwar A. Singh, M.D., founder of the Eye Center as well as clinical provider, determined that Tina would not be a viable candidate for any of these procedures, which are easily done in the state-of-the-art, on-site surgical suite located in both locations of the Eye Center. According to Dr. I. Paul Singh, another opthamologist with the Eye Center, "all patients must undergo such extensive pre-operative testing to ensure that post-operative results are fabulous." This underscores the important point that not all patients are good candidates for elective cosmetic surgical procedures. When there is a match between patient and provider expectations, however, the results of cosmetic surgery can be dramatic and amazing!
The Eye Centers of Racine and Kenosha is a multi-specialty opthalmic practice with three full-time M.D.s, and a full-time optometrist. The offices are at St. Mary's Medical Center, 3805B Spring Street Suite 140, Racine 53405, Telephone: (262) 637-0500 and Med Care West, 9916 75th Street Suite 101, Kenosha 53142, Telephone: (262) 658-1937.

Aspire Salon and Spa - Tina currently has a pretty medium red brown color which complimented her warm skin tone well. She had some out growth, which I touched up using Framesi Hair Color in a matching shade. I decided to enhance her color by adding some dimension with caramel blonde highlights. This brightened up her face and eyes and gives her a beautiful look for the summer. My challenge with Tina was getting her to let go of some of the length of her hair. It was down tot the middle of her back which elongated her face and was pulling the onlookers eye down and away from her pretty eyes, where the focal point should be. It didn't frame her face well or give her many styling options because her hair is extremely thick. She agreed to let me cut it just below shoulder length, which is a much more flattering length for her. I razor texturized it to remove the bulk and giver her lots of swingy layers with a side swept fringe bang. Her new color and style gives her a very sexy and sophisticated look.
For her makeup I am using Sorme Cosmetics. Sorme is the makeup line of top Hollywood movie studios and some of the most internationally recognized names in makeup artistry. I have chosen Sorme because of the incredible treatment benefits it provides for the skin. Nourishing botanicals, antioxidants, natural minerals, revitalizing vitamins and advanced technology ingredients including alpha hydroxy acids and pentapeptides helps protect the skin from environmental damage and keep it youthful and radiant.
