- Racine Dream Team Makeover 2008 Progress -
In 2005, when the Dream Team makeover project was initiated, Dr. Kind envisioned a fun, exciting makeover contest for which the community could really get excited about. Everyone knows about the "Extreme Makeover" show on TV and most of us have wondered how fantastic that would be if it was happening to us! It was her desire to get the word out to the community that the services being given to the people on the TV show could be found right here in Racine.
Dr. Kind presented her idea to Beth Allison of InnaVision Global Marketing and Mark Eickhorst of Reach Your Mark Promotions who are both very committed to seeing the Racine area thrive. They thought it was a great idea and, thus, the Racine Dream Team Makeover, Inc. was born.
The '2008 Racine Dream Team Makeover - Frest Start' was initiated to offer assistance to a victim of domestic abuse. Our hope was to help the winner begin to heal their emotional wounds and also raise self-esteem by improving their physical health and appearance. Our winner for 2008 is Patricia Robbins, a 49 year old Racine resident, who is ready for the challenge of the makeover process. Patricia will be receiving services from our Dream Team Sponsors throughout the makeover which will end in a celebration dinner at the Charcoal Grill and Rotisserie in early September. Updates will be posted as the makeover progresses so that you can watch the transformation occur!! (Thank you to Image Management LLC for continuing support of this website)
Here are the updates from our providers and our sponsors:
Kind Dentistry
June 2008 - Since Patricia has been unable to maintain regular dental care over the past several years, she was very excited about the dental portion of the makeover. She was aware that there were some serious problems, but was not in a position to pursue treatment. We began her dental makeover with a comprehensive dental examination and complete set of x-rays. A treatment plan was developed to solve some dental health issues as well as some cosmetic concerns. Her initial therapy included some advanced periodontal services and some oral surgery. She also received several tooth-colored fillings and we are soon beginning her porcelain crown restorations on her upper front teeth. She is also receiving professional teeth whitening for her lower front teeth. Patricia is already experiencing some of the positive results of improved dental health and is looking forward to having a smile that she can be proud of!!
August 5th - Patricia has had multiple dental appointments over the past month or so. Just recently we took the final impressions for her porcelain crowns for her front teeth. Her overall dental health is already significantly improved and she is looking great. The Racine Dream Team Makeover is not able to completely reverse the emotional damages that may have been caused by the domestic abuse situation, but a major factor in recovery is self-esteem. These women frequently stay in their situation because they simply do not believe that they deserve anything better. Their self-esteem can be extremely low with no hope of improvement. With this makeover, one of our goals is to help Patty begin to realize that she is a beautiful person and has value as an individual. Our life coach, Pamela Grant, is working with the emotional aspect while the rest of us are working on the external. Patty has been self conscious about her smile for many years and she knew she had a very un-healthy situation in her mouth. When she first saw her temporary crowns on her front teeth, she was deeply moved by the dramatic change. She is already starting to smile more frequently and with confidence!!
*** Kind Dentistry would like to extend a very special thank you to Popp Dental Laboratory for donating all of the dental labwork for the Racine Dream Team Makeover.

June 2008 - Patricia has made a personal commitment to improve her overall health and wellness. She is ready to make the lifestyle changes needed for improved health and quality of life, for her and her daughter. After completing a self-evaluation, Patricia has found that she is a bit “metabolically challenged”, so our focus is to eat and manage life’s stressors through healthy eating and physical activity, to help correct her metabolism. I began with simple measurements including weight, body fat percent, and waist and hip circumference. We then discussed eating habits, exercise, risk factors, including tobacco and alcohol use, current medications and supplementation, heart health, dieting history and health care utilization. The majority of our first visit was discussing the basics of nutrition and weight management.
July 2008 - From Suzanne, the club's Wellness Consultant and Registered Nurse - I had the absolute pleasure of meeting with Patricia on June 24th and July 1st and wanted to bring you up to date. Her starting stats are as follows:
Weight = 190.6 lbs.
Body Fat % = 28.1
Waist = 34 in.
Hips = 45 in
Attitude = 150%
Our second meeting on July 1st was focused on doing a detox diet to “jump start” her metabolism and cleanse her body from toxins. We set some short and long term goals based on learning needs, and will meet on a weekly basis.
July 8th - Patricia has completed all but one day of her detox diet, which basically included fresh, raw fruits and vegetables, lemon water, herbal tea, and lean protein. The best part is that she didn't feel "deprived", and she reports the following health changes: decreased heartburn, bloating and cravings. She has less body "soreness" and as a result has less ibuprofen use. Another great thing to report is that her daughter is eating better. Patricia is reading labels and scrutinizing what she puts in her mouth.
I enjoy our weekly meetings, and am very proud of Patricia!
July 24th - Patricia checks in today at 4 weeks from starting her new journey toward optimal health and wellness. She has lost 2.5 pounds, 1 inch off her waist and ½ inch off her hips. Her change in body fat percent is -1.4%!! She remains in “moderately overweight”, but is definitely moving toward “good”, and lowering her risk factors for chronic complications. She verbalizes more energy and somewhat “ease” of eating better. She will continue to follow the Transitions Lifestyle System, a system for life., one that focuses on eating more low GI foods, behavior modification, and changing body composition.
August 5th - Patricia and I met this morning and the first thing that I noticed was that her face looked healthier. It had a clean, smooth and toned look to it. She verbalizes that she also feels that her body is changing in a positive way. Her clothes fit looser, and she doesn’t feel bloated.
She reports she is sleeping better and wakes with energy. She really attributes all this to healthy eating and exercising. Her kitchen cupboards have more space as she is buying more fresh produce which, she admits, costs less than when she used to buy more packaged and prepared foods, so she is actually saving money at the store.
Patricia is truly making lifestyle changes. Great work!
Eye Center of Racine
Patricia was seen at The Eye Centers of Racine and Kenosha, by Dr Kanwar Singh MD for a comprehensive consultation. During this extensive exam, the only vision problem that Dr Singh found, was a minor need for reading glasses. She does not require any of the other surgical or cosmetic procedures that our office provides such as, LASIK vision correction, Blepharoplasty, Cataract removal, or Botox Injections at this time. Patricia will be returning to our office to work with our friendly opticians to pick out a frame that will compliment her new look.
The Eye Centers of Racine and Kenosha is a multi-specialty opthalmic practice with three full-time M.D.s, and a full-time optometrist. The offices are at St. Mary's Medical Center, 3805B Spring Street Suite 140, Racine 53405, Telephone: (262) 637-0500 and Med Care West, 9916 75th Street Suite 101, Kenosha 53142, Telephone: (262) 658-1937.

Pamela Grant - Personal Insight Coach - "Hope Renewed"
I had my first session with Patricia. I explained to her that a life coach is like a "personal trainer" who supports you to face and conquer life challenges. Wellness coaching is about improving your immediate and future quality of life. The "Circle of Life" process empowers you to set positive life and health direction, then reach those goals. This coaching is ideal for persons who deal with high stress at home or work. It also works for persons facing life transitions in health, family care-giving with aging parents, relationships or career. It is a process that not only addresses your greatest challenges but also creates a path for moving forward in your life. It focuses on personal empowerment and Self Care. We discussed Patricia's ability to embrace the principles that she has inner potential for ,self-healing capacity, personal transformation, Self Care and self reliance, The Circle of Life process of coaching is based on an actual circular image, divided into 12 aspects of our lifes. Through the self inquiry process, all aspects within the circle are explored and rated to the persons satisfaction level or need to work on the area. These aspects are Nutrition, Exercise, Stress Mastery, Relaxation, Finances, Work, Play, Health Care, Empowerment, Life Purpose, Self Esteem and Spirituality. Patricia went home with home work to rate these areas. She will pick her top three areas that she will choose to work on in the next few weeks. She is a delight to work with. My goal as her coach is to guide her to advance on an upward spiral of vitality, health, joy, peace and the fullfillment of her goals.
We will post more information as the makeover progresses - thank you for your interest!
