- 2006 Makeover Results -
Last summer, when this project was initiated, we had a vision of a
fun, exciting makeover contest for which the community could really
get excited about. Everyone has heard about the “Extreme Makeover”
show on TV and most of us have wondered how fantastic that would be
if it was happening to us! It was our desire to get the word out to
the community that the services being given to the people on the TV
show could be found right here in Racine. The initial Dream
Team consisted of Dr. Kim Kind of Kind Dentistry, Razor Sharp
Fitness, Enhanced Nutrition and Fitness, and Dr. Michael Sweet. We
soon received word that Dr. Mark Lenz Orthodontics and Dr. Kanwar
Singh, the Eye Center of Racine wanted to be Dream Team providers as
well!! Thus the official Racine Dream Team was born!!
Last year’s makeover involved many hours of planning and providing
services to our winner by the Dream Team and all of our wonderful
sponsors. The result was amazing and we all were very pleased with
the success of the contest. So collectively we decided to run the
contest again. In January, we announced the 2006 Racine Dream Team
Makeover to the public and the applications started to come in. The
selection process was challenging to try to find the individual that
would benefit from the services of all six of the Dream Team
providers. The Racine Dream Team selected Cheryl Dixon – a fifty
year old woman who was recently dealt some very personal difficult
situations. She had worked through the emotional healing and was
feeling more beautiful on the inside, but wanted to feel beautiful
on the outside.
So the makeover began in late April and Cheryl’s appointment book
became very full with the various appointments with all of the Dream
team providers. Here is a brief summary of the services they
provided:
Kind Dentistry:
Dr. Kim Kind-Bauer (owner/dentist and founder of the
Racine Dream Team Makeover) - Cheryl began with a very comprehensive
evaluation and development of a treatment plan. Her dental
treatment plan was very complex, and involved multiple aspects of
dentistry. Dr. Kind performed extensive oral surgery, some gum
treatment, crown work, and cosmetic restorative treatment. Cheryl’s
dental health was drastically improved by all of this treatment and
her smile is really beautiful. She used to hide her teeth because
she was so embarrassed, but now she radiates with confidence. Best
of all, her overall health and wellness has significantly improved.
The mouth is part of the body and if it is not healthy, the rest of
you is not healthy either. Dr. Kind would like to offer a special
thanks to Popp Dental Lab for their donation of all of the
laboratory services for Cheryl’s dental treatment.

Razor Sharp Fitness:
Teri
Bannon (owner) and
Ed Van De Water
(personal fitness trainer and
licensed physical therapist) - Cheryl had already started a walking
program about 3-4 weeks prior to her initial consultation with Ed.
Cheryl spent 12 weeks working hard and following a very regimented
exercise program. Her routine included cario conditioning and
resistance training with an emphasis on weight loss. Cheryl trained
at Razor Sharp two times per week and was on an independent
walking/cardio program the other 5 days. Her measurement changes by
the end of the makeover were quite dramatic.
Eye Centers of Racine and Kenosha:
Cheryl Dixon
was seen for the first time, April 27, 2006, at The Eye Center of
Racine for a LASIK consultation. After reviewing the testing that
was done, Dr. Singh didn’t think she would be a good candidate for
LASIK surgery because of the large amount of astigmatism in her
right eye. Dr. Singh consulted with a cornea specialist from Chicago
and they both agreed that Cheryl was not a good candidate.
Cheryl was seen again on June 8, 2006, for a cosmetic consultation.
Both Cheryl and Dr. Singh agreed that she would benefit both
cosmetically and medically, by improving peripheral vision, by
having an upper lid blepharoplasty. Cheryl had her surgery done on
June 16, 2006 and came back for her suture removal on June 30, 2006.
The results of her surgery are wonderful.
Dr. Mark Lenz:
Cheryl's dental condition was not conducive to orthodontic
treatment. However, last year's winner, Vickie Kuiper, is nearly
finished with her orthodontic treatment using the Damon orthodontic
system. Her smile looks fantastic!!
Dr. Michael Sweet:
*3
photofacials (Photorejuvenation with intense pulsed light) that
resulted in a more even skin tone by eliminating sun damage and
broken capillaries.
*2 regular facials to extract some of the debris out of the pores
and exfoliate the skin
*1 Glycolic chemical peel to accelerate the benefits of the skin
care products by allowing them to absorb into the skin more
effectively.
*Skin care products from the Jan Marini Skin Research line to soften
& smooth skin texture, even skin tone, and reduce fine lines &
wrinkles.
Cheryl also received a cosmetic surgery consultation from Dr. Sweet
as well as some laser vein treatment.
Cheryl’s skin looks beautiful and has a fresh, smooth feel. She will
continue to use the skin care system to maintain her results.
Enhanced Nutrition and Fitness:
Montel Melcher
(Clinical Nutritionist/owner) – Cheryl was not put on a “diet”, but
rather a makeover of her eating habits. Montel is continuing to
work with Cheryl to develop better, healthier eating habits and food
choices. She also analyzed Cheryl’s nutritional state and
recommended nutritional supplements that were specific to Cheryl’s
needs.
The combined efforts of proper exercise and nutrition, mixed with
Cheryl’s determination, produced the following results. These
measurements are proof of her hard work and success:
Weight loss 40 pounds lost
Body Fat 39.5% to 27.9%
Arms 1.6”
reduction Chest 3.5” reduction
Waist 4.2”
reduction Thigh 2.7” reduction
Butt 5.1” reduction

Aspire Salon
Marianne
colored Cheryl’s overall base color a warmer deep blonde. This made
her natural ashy blonde a richer, more brilliant tone which will
really bring out the beautiful rosy undertones in her skin and
accentuate her eyes. Marianne then added highlights throughout
Cheryl’s entire hair to create dimension and a more voluminous
appearance. Cheryl then received a cut in a layered diagonal forward
bob with a lot of razored texturizing. The diagonal forward
design will soften her jaw line and the stacked angle in the nape
area will create the appearance of lifting her jaw line. Cheryl had
a new, fresh look with hair color, cut and style. She looked
great!.

the reveal celebration and provided a very impressive entrance to
the ceremony!

Cheryl that was present at the reveal ceremony. It was amazing to
see the difference as Cheryl stood next to her before figure!

facility for tonight’s ceremony and also is generously donating
meals for Cheryl’s family and the Racine Dream Team sponsors
This year, a total
of 18 businesses were involved in donating services for this
project!!! Of course, this was exactly the type of community
enthusiasm we were hoping to generate with the Racine Dream Team.
Racine businesses were seeing the vision and wanting to join in the
excitement!! We are frequently asked, “How is that makeover
going?” We hear comments about how great it is that the Racine
Dream Team Makeover was started, and “are you going to do it again
next year?”, and “I wish I lived in Racine!”.
Racine is a great
city and has much to offer its residents. We have many high quality
businesses that are truly committed to their customers and to the
community. A special thanks to those who have joined us in this
initiative to encourage business and enthusiasm in Racine.
Cheryl worked
really hard to see her dreams become a reality… and she looks and
feels fantastic!! How can you place a value on seeing someone
transform their life in a such positive way? She is very grateful
for the opportunity to have received this makeover. And we are very
grateful to have had the pleasure of seeing the Racine Dream Team
Makeover…“change the face of Racine”!!
What about last
year’s winner? Vickie has continued to maintain her exercise
program and has made healthier food choices a routine. She is still
very excited about her transformation and feels that all of her hard
work was well worth it. She has been continuing in her orthodontic
treatment with Dr. Mark Lenz and her treatment was completed on July
21st. She received treatment using the Damon System
which provides excellent tooth movement with gentle forces and
minimal friction, resulting in shorter treatment times and minimal
or no discomfort. You can see Vickie’s beautiful results in the
photos below.
